Steel Sculpture by Canadian Sculptor Hilary Clark Cole
This is a sculpture based on the translated words of a poem by San Juan de la Cruz, which floats through my life quite often, perhaps because I know a few solitary birds:
The conditions of a solitary bird are five;
This is a wall sculpture, the softly singing face is life-size, so the piece is about 24"X 24" in total.
It is of welded steel sheet, torch coloured.
The first is that it flies to the highest point,
The second, that it does not suffer for company, even of its own kind,
The third, that it aims its beak to the skies,
The fourth, that it does not have a definite colour,
The fifth, that it sings very softly.
